P.O.S.T (Proprietary and Open Source Techniques): Elevation Data!

Join us for a Thursday “P.O.S.T.”  – the Centroid’s new casual and collaborative learning event where we compare Proprietary and Open Source Techniques.

Each session, we’ll work with a different theme or dataset, and explore how to work with it in two different GIS platforms.

On October 13th, we will look at multiple ways to acquire elevation data – DEMs – using:

• ArcGIS Living Atlas data
• R’s elevatR package
  • elevatR documentation from rspatialdata
  • elevatR sample code and boundary shapefile
• Python’s Leafmap, developed by Quisheng Wu
  • Notebook with sample code
  • Video tutorial: Using Leafmap to download NED data 
  • Github repository – sample Notebook 

Bring a laptop if you have one, or use one of our Centroid lab machines. Programming experience not necessary, but general GIS skills are needed.
